Basketball Play - SFA Stack High

SFA Stack High

Andrew Greer 03/20/2015

Stephen F. Austin ran this BLOB set against Utah late in the 2nd half of their Round 2 matchup. The Lumberjacks were within striking distance of the Utes and needed quality scoring opportunities. This play worked to perfection but the open 3 didn't fall. This multiple action set utilizes misdirection for the shooter followed by a stagger. SFA had no trouble completing the handoff or getting the open 3 they were looking for. See More

Basketball Play - S.F. Austin High Flex/Dribble Handoff

S.F. Austin High Flex/Dribble Handoff

Andrew Greer 03/20/2015

Stephen F. Austin ran this early offense almost exclusively in the first half of their Round 2 matchup with Utah. Utah switched all screens which caused issues for the Lumberjacks but they were still able to get quality shots. This early offense uses flex concepts to clear one side of the floor for a dribble handoff. Stephen F. Austin utilizes a 5 that can attack the rim off the dribble to allow for multiple options out of the set. See More

Basketball Play - Dayton Screen the Screener

Dayton Screen the Screener

Justin Scanson 03/19/2015

Dayton vs. Boise State 3/18/15 Shortly after the first media timeout, Dayton ran this screen the screener set vs. Boise State. (14:20 mark of the first half). The play got Darrell Davis a wide open look because he set a great screen for the 4 diving to the block and his defense stayed to help. This set should work with most personnel. See More

Basketball Play - 1-4 Blast

1-4 Blast

Craig LeVasseur 03/19/2015

Robert Morris ran this play with 3 minutes to go and a small lead over North Florida to get an open mid-range jumper. Starting out of a 1-4 set, the 1 hits the wing and pins down for the 4 man to receive a ball reversal. 1 continues under the rim while 5 rips 3 under the rim. From here, it turns into common Blast action. 5 pins for 1 to receive a DHO with 4. 3 and 2 time their pin down so that 3 comes off of the screen right after 1 receives the DHO, setting up an open mid-range jumper. Basketball Play - Robert Morris Hawk Double

Robert Morris Hawk Double

Craig LeVasseur 03/19/2015

Robert Morris used this play in the second half against North Florida in NCAA First Four action. This is a common NBA hawk set sometimes known as 351. The 3 man's defender has all of the work here, as he must commit to helping on the hawk screen just enough to force a difficult Show on the side p/r, and then must recover back to the pick and pop. In this game, UNF was aware of the play and x2 cheated off of his man to rotate to the 3 man on the pick and pop. Lucky Jones was still able to get the defender off his feet, however, and drew a 3 shot foul. See More

Basketball Play - Georgia Chin Shuffle

Georgia Chin Shuffle

Adam Spinella 03/16/2015

Georgia coach Mark Fox has done a fantastic job turning around a Bulldog program that has been towards the bottom of the SEC for the better part of a decade. Now securing an at-large birth to the NCAA Tournament, Fox is finally getting some well-deserved recognition, in particular for his offense. Fox employs a lot of high post actions, raising his big men to the elbows and the three point line to open driving lanes and take away help at the rim. The multitude of dribble handoffs that Georgia runs keeps defenses honest, and the speed at which they run them makes them dangerous offensively. One of the most impressive sets I saw Fox and his team run during their second game of the year against Kentucky was a variation of the Chin offense that split into the shuffle offense. By moving the ball side-to-side several times, the defense was forced to shift and move by reacting to the player and ball movement. The shuffle offense is effective because it allows a post-up opportunity with great spacing; Fox’s set drops the trailer or the 4-man to the block for what can be a mis-match post. See More

Basketball Play - Line Back

Line Back

Kyle Gilreath 03/11/2015

Last night with 2.7 seconds on the shot clock, the Dallas Mavericks ran this baseline out-of-bounds play vs the Cleveland Cavaliers. While the resulting shot wasn’t great, I really love this action. The secondary screening action on the back side open up two several scoring options while pulling the defense away from the rim with the main action. 3 has a look has a look if the defense gets caught and 4 and slip back to the ball after screening for a lay-up. Late Game SLOB from Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings. Vandy ran this set late in the game against Florida on Feb. 18 down 2. This set has multiple options for a lob or 3. Player positioning: 1 should be your best passer, 2 should be your best shooter, 5 should be your best rim finisher. See More

Basketball Play - Mover Blocker (LANE-WIDE)

Mover Blocker (LANE-WIDE)

Randy Sherman 03/05/2015

In the lane-wide alignment of the Mover Blocker offense, there is one lane screener just as in lane-lane. There is a wide screener that can screen from midline to sideline on his/her side of the floor. It is a good way to add spacing to the offense, utilize a skilled forward and add more variety to the screening options Rules: Lane Blocker must remain on his/her side of the floor and screen for movers ONLY along the lane line. Wide Blocker can set up inside or outside and can screen from midline to sideline on their side of the court. They should screen and separate and play outside the three-point line. Movers pass and cut and maintain top-side-side alignment while using screens from the blockers. READ the defense, curl, back cut and out cut depending on how the defense covers the screening action This is not a patterned offense! Players play within the rules and concepts. In the video below, #11 Evan Nolte is the "wide" screener. See More
